Warner Bros. Discovery is officially breaking up — and the two new companies are ready to roll. CEO David Zaslav’s streaming and studio empire will take on the iconic Warner Bros. name, while CFO Gunnar Weidenfels will lead the linear and global networks division under the banner Discovery Global.

The split creates two distinct entertainment giants. Warner Bros. will house the legendary Warner film and TV studios, DC Studios, HBO and HBO Max, plus the TCM cable network. Discovery Global will include the former Discovery and Turner networks — TNT, TBS, CNN, Cartoon Network, Discovery, Food Network, and HGTV — along with its international channels and the Discovery+ streamer.

The newly minted companies have also locked in their top executives.

Zaslav in a statement says: “We will proudly continue the more than century-long legacy of Warner Bros. through our commitment to bringing culture-defining stories, characters and entertainment to audiences around the world. Over the past several years, we have made important strides across the business, launching and investing in a profitable, global streaming service and reinvigorating our studios to return them again to an industry leading position. With our unmatched portfolio of storytelling IP coupled with our incredible creative partners, and now an executive team of proven, bold, and committed creative and corporate leaders, we are in a strong position to launch and continue to meaningfully grow a company worthy of our storied past.”

Zaslav’s Warner Bros. leadership team includes:

  • Pam Abdy & Mike De Luca, Co-CEOs of Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group

  • James Gunn & Peter Safran, Co-CEOs of DC Studios

  • Casey Bloys, CEO of HBO and HBO Max

  • Channing Dungey, CEO of Warner Bros. TV Group

  • JB Perrette, CEO of Streaming and Games

  • Bruce Campbell, COO

  • Avi Saxena, CTO

  • Robert Gibbs, Chief Communications Officer

  • Priya Aiyar, Chief Legal Officer

  • Lori Locke, Chief Accounting Officer

Weidenfels’ Discovery Global will be led by:

  • Mark Thompson, CEO of CNN

  • Luis Silberwasser, CEO of TNT Sports

  • Ryan Gould & Bobby Voltaggio, Heads of Ad Sales

  • Gerhard Zeiler, President of US, UK & Germany, Discovery+ and Chief Content Officer

  • David Duvall, CTO

  • Scott Miller, President of Distribution

  • Fraser Woodford, CFO

  • Anil Jhingan, Chief Development Officer

  • Fulvia Nicoli, EVP of Content Strategy & Insights

  • Fernando Medin, President of International

The split marks a significant reshaping of the media landscape, as Zaslav and Weidenfels steer their respective companies into the next era of streaming, sports, and global entertainment.
