Callina Liang, known for her breakout role in Steven Soderbergh’s supernatural thriller ‘Presence,’ has been cast as Chun-Li in Legendary’s upcoming live-action ‘Street Fighter’ film.

Legendary has not commented on the casting, and details about the film’s plot are still under wraps. Chun-Li, a central figure in Capcom’s beloved video game franchise, is a highly skilled martial artist and Interpol agent who made her debut in ‘Street Fighter II’ in 1991. Liang joins a cast that already includes Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Jason Momoa, Roman Reigns, and Orville Peck. The film will be directed by ‘Bad Trip’’s Kitao Sakurai.

First released in 1987, ‘Street Fighter’ is a legendary fighting game series that focuses on global one-on-one combat between diverse martial artists. The narrative frequently involves a world tournament orchestrated by the villainous M. Bison, leader of the Shadaloo criminal syndicate. With over 55 million copies sold globally, ‘Street Fighter’ remains one of the most successful and iconic franchises in video game history.

Liang recently starred alongside Lucy Liu and Chris Sullivan in the critically acclaimed ‘Presence,’ which premiered at Sundance and was released by Neon in January. The Canadian-born actress’s credits also include the J.C. Lee thriller ‘Bad Genius’ and Apple TV+’s ‘Foundation.’
