Disney reportedly lost 1.7 million subscribers after ABC suspended ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ over comments the host made about Trump’s reaction to the assassination of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. The show was pulled on September 17 after Kimmel suggested Kirk’s shooter might have been a Trump supporter.

Kimmel returned on September 23, saying he hadn’t meant to “make light” of the murder. His comeback episode drew 6.2 million viewers, despite 20% of affiliates refusing to air it.

During the suspension, newsletter founder Marisa Kabas reported that over 1.7 million users canceled Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN subscriptions. Stephen Colbert noted a spike in searches for “cancel Disney+” and “cancel Hulu” at the same time.

On the day Kimmel returned, Disney confirmed subscription price hikes starting October 21, though the company said the increases were planned months in advance and not linked to the controversy.
