Jim Carrey to Receive Honorary César Award at 51st Edition in 2026

Canadian-American actor Jim Carrey will be honored with an honorary César Award this coming February, by the French Academy.

Carrey first rose to global fame with his comedic turns in ‘The Mask,’ ‘Ace Ventura,’ and ‘Dumb and Dumber’ (all 1994), later captivating audiences in films such as ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ (2000), ‘Bruce Almighty’ (2003), and took a deeper drama explorations with ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004),’ ‘The Truman Show’ (1998),’ and ‘Man on the Moon’ (1999). He won Golden Globes for both ‘The Truman Show’ and ‘Man on The Moon.’

In recent years, he has starred as Dr. Robotnik in the ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ franchise.

The French Academy also noted that Carrey’s career is defined by remarkable range: “His career is characterized by exceptional versatility: in film, he alternates between blockbusters and auteur films; on television, his moving and sensitive role in the Showtime series Kidding once again confirmed the breadth of his talent.”

Beyond acting, Carrey’s influence extends across multiple artistic mediums. He was the subject of the Emmy Award–nominated documentary Jim & Andy, has earned a spot on The New York Times bestseller list with his novel Memoirs and Misinformation, and is internationally recognized as a visual artist, with numerous exhibitions and publications to his name.

Carrey will receive the Honorary César Award from the Academy of Cinema Arts and Techniques and CANAL+ at the 51st César Awards ceremony, set for Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, at the Olympia in Paris.
