Kate Beckinsale has filed a lawsuit against the producers of the 2024 action thriller ‘Canary Black,’ alleging she was subjected to “unsafe conditions” during the film’s production.
According to The Guardian, the British actress — widely recognized for her role in the ‘Underworld’ franchise — claims she was forced to work grueling 15-hour days without proper support and suffered a serious knee injury after being thrown into a wall while filming a scene.
The lawsuit, initially submitted anonymously in June 2024 and now refiled under Beckinsale’s name, accuses the production team of creating an environment that led to “severe and debilitating injuries.”
Key allegations in the lawsuit include:
Beckinsale sustained a meniscus tear in her left knee from being thrown into a wall during a stunt.
She was pressured into performing dangerous action sequences upon returning to work, despite her injury.
Her original stunt double broke her ankle, and instead of replacing her with a qualified professional, producers allegedly brought in the stunt coordinator’s girlfriend, who lacked proper credentials.
The actress requested workout equipment to maintain her physical condition for the role, but it was never provided.
‘Canary Black,’ released in October 2024, features Beckinsale as a CIA operative forced to undertake high-stakes missions after her husband is kidnapped. The film also stars Rupert Friend, Saffron Burrows, and the late Ray Stevenson.
Before her breakout in ‘Pearl Harbor,’ Beckinsale — daughter of the late British comedian Richard Beckinsale — rose to prominence with her film debut in Kenneth Branagh’s ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ (1993). Her career has since included roles in ‘Van Helsing’ (2004), ‘Total Recall’ (2012), and the ‘Underworld’ franchise (2003–2016).
