Anna Kendrick and J.K. Simmons are set to lead ‘Embassy,’ a new six-part geopolitical action thriller.
Kendrick (‘Pitch Perfect’) will play Layla, a sharp and resourceful American diplomat stationed at the U.S. Embassy in London. When the embassy comes under attack from armed mercenaries, Layla is tasked by the U.S. Ambassador (‘Simmons’) with extracting a high-value asset trapped inside the compound. To carry out the mission, she’s forced to team up with her ex, a British SAS soldier, as a far-reaching conspiracy begins to surface.
The series is being produced by AGC Television, Ascendant Fox and Turbine Studios, and will be introduced to international buyers at MIPCOM in Cannes next week.
Created and written by Rom Lotan, ‘Embassy’ will be directed by John Strickland (‘Bodyguard,’ ‘Line of Duty’). Lotan and Strickland will also serve as executive producers alongside Ascendant Fox’s Hester Ruoff, Bart Ruspoli and Matt Mitchell; Turbine’s Daniel Hetzer, Jakob Neuhauser, Justin Thomson and David Tanner; and AGC’s Stuart Ford, Lourdes Diaz and Miguel A. Palos Jr. Production is slated to kick off in February 2026 in London and Cologne.
Kendrick has a busy slate ahead, with production starting in November on ‘Babies,’ a new film directed by Lauren Miller Rogen and co-starring Seth Rogen. She’s also set to appear with Adam Driver and Daniel Kaluuya in Chris Rock’s upcoming A24 drama, currently untitled (formerly ‘Misty Green’).
Simmons, meanwhile, comes to ‘Embassy’ following ‘The Accountant 2’ and has a full lineup of projects. He’ll star in David Ayer’s action film ‘Heart of the Beast’ opposite Brad Pitt, play George Schultz in Michael Russell Gunn’s Cold War drama ‘Reykjavik,’ and appear alongside Nicolas Cage in Cameron Van Hoy’s satirical drama ‘The Prince.’
