Matt Smith is set to join Ryan Gosling in ‘Star Wars: Starfighter,’ an upcoming Lucasfilm project directed by Shawn Levy. Mia Goth is also attached to the cast, with a script penned by Jonathan Tropper.

Production is scheduled to begin this fall, with the film slated for release on May 28, 2027. While details about Smith’s role are still under wraps, insiders suggest he’ll be portraying one of the film’s central villains. In recent weeks, casting has accelerated, with Levy reportedly meeting multiple actors for the role before selecting Smith as the next major antagonist in the ‘Star Wars’ saga.

‘Starfighter’ was officially announced during April’s Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo. The story takes place five years after ‘The Rise of Skywalker,’ the final installment in the Skywalker saga and currently the last chapter in the franchise’s timeline.

Smith’s next project involve starring alongside Austin Butler in the upcoming ‘Caught Stealing’ Sony thriller, produced by Darren Aronofsky, and will appear in the upcoming limited series ‘The Death of Bunny Monro.’
