Updates from the DC Universe(s).
‘The Batman Part II,’ written and directed by Matt Reeves, is scheduled to begin filming in the spring. The highly anticipated sequel is targeting an October 1, 2027 theatrical release.
The announcement comes as Warner Bros. Discovery celebrates the strong performance of James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ which has already earned $560 million globally. CEO David Zaslav also shared additional updates regarding the studio's upcoming projects: “James Gunn is already preparing to write the next installment in the Super family,” he said.
“In film, James Gunn is busy preparing the next installments of the DC super family, including ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ (2026), ‘Clayface’ (2026) and the next Wonder Woman. In addition, ‘The Batman II’ (2027) is preparing to begin shooting next spring, among several other projects in development. The 10-year vision for the DC universe also includes an exciting array of television projects, including ‘The Penguin,’ the upcoming new season of ‘Peacemaker,’ and the debut of ‘Lanterns’ in 2026. In a precise and measured way, the DC franchise will increasingly overlay across the studio’s broader efforts: from film and TV to consumer products, games, experiences and social,” says a shareholder note.
‘The Batman Part II,’ starring Robert Pattinson, has officially entered pre-production. Pattinson will return as the Dark Knight, and Reeves has confirmed that Colin Farrell will reprise his role as The Penguin, continuing the storyline featured in the HBO spin-off series.
Originally slated for a 2025 release, the sequel has faced multiple delays. Earlier this year, Reeves revealed he was still working on the script, with plans to begin filming before year’s end.
James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, addressed the delays, noting that such scheduling changes are “fairly common” in major film productions.
