‘High Side’ is a hot new package based on an unpublished short story by Jaime Oliveira, and it’s already generating major interest. The project could reunite Timothée Chalamet and director James Mangold, fresh off the success of ‘A Complete Unknown,’ the Bob Dylan biopic that scored eight Oscar nominations. Chernin Entertainment is on board to produce, while Sugar23 — which represents Oliveira — is currently shopping the pitch around town. The story is also gaining attention within publishing circles.
‘High Side’ centers on Billy, a former MotoGP star whose career was derailed by a brutal crash and the weight of a family history riddled with abandonment. Now living a quiet life tending to his family’s garage and caring for his addicted father, Billy is dragged back into a world of speed and danger when his estranged older brother, Cole, reappears following their father's death. Cole, already on the FBI’s radar, pitches a daring idea: use Billy’s exceptional riding skills to rob banks using superbikes.
Billy reluctantly agrees, joining a ragtag team that includes a woman who eventually becomes his lover. Together, they begin a spree of small-town bank robberies across the desert, executed with ruthless precision and lightning speed. But with every successful hit, the risks grow. As they prepare for their most ambitious score — a heist during a major motorcycle parade — they find themselves in the crosshairs of Lennox, an FBI agent with a personal vendetta against Cole. The story builds to a thrilling and emotionally charged climax packed with high-speed action.
Chalamet is currently in production on ‘Dune: Part Three,’ and is set to star in ‘Marty Supreme,’ a table tennis drama directed by Josh Safdie.
