After success of Netflix’s ‘The Rip’ (featuring ‘The Flash’ co-star Ben Affleck), Sasha Calle is stepping into the horror genre with Mike Flanagan’s ‘The Exorcist’ — the next chapter in the legendary horror saga.
The film is set for a theatrical release from Universal Pictures on March 12, 2027.
As expected with a franchise built on dread and secrecy, details about Calle’s character—and the film’s plot—are being kept tightly under wraps. What is known: the project is written and directed by horror maestro Mike Flanagan and is currently filming in New York City. Rather than continuing the story from ‘The Exorcist: Believer,’ this installment will carve out an entirely new narrative within the franchise’s chilling universe.
Calle joins an A-list ensemble that includes Scarlett Johansson, Jacobi Jupe, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Laurence Fishburne, and Diane Lane.
Flanagan also produces through Red Room Pictures, alongside David Robinson for Morgan Creek Entertainment and Jason Blum for Blumhouse-Atomic Monster. Executive producers include Alexandra Magistro and Ryan Turek.
Calle’s momentum has been building fast. In ‘The Rip,’ she stars opposite Matt Damon and Affleck under the direction of Joe Carnahan. The gritty crime thriller premiered in January, spending three weeks at No. 1 on Netflix’s global English-language film list and currently holding strong at No. 7.
Her ascent began in blockbuster fashion with ‘The Flash’ from Warner Bros., where she made history as the first Latina actress to portray Supergirl in a major studio superhero film. She later appeared in ‘On Swift Horses,’ directed by Daniel Minahan, alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones, Jacob Elordi, Will Poulter, and Diego Calva. In ‘In the Summers,’ directed by Alessandra Lacorazza Samudio, she delivered a performance that helped the film win both the Grand Jury Prize and Directing Award at Sundance 2024.
Up next, Calle stars opposite Colin Farrell in Season 2 of ‘Sugar’ for Apple.
