Ana Nogueira, the screenwriter behind ‘Supergirl,’ has officially been tapped to write DC Studios’ new take on Wonder Woman.

In addition to this, Nogueira is reportedly working on a live-action ‘Teen Titans’ project for Warner Bros., which is now under the creative direction of James Gunn and Peter Safran.

This news arrives as Gunn’s ‘Superman’ continues its impressive box office run, earning over $409 million worldwide in just two weeks. The film’s success stands out in a post-pandemic landscape where comic book movies have struggled to replicate their pre-COVID box office dominance.

When Gunn and Safran assumed control of DC Studios, they opted not to move forward with Patty Jenkins’ planned ‘Wonder Woman 3,’ which would have featured Gal Gadot’s return to the character. Jenkins, who made history with the original ‘Wonder Woman’’s groundbreaking $103.2 million domestic debut (ultimately grossing $412.8 million domestically and nearly $824 million globally), expressed disappointment at the decision. Her follow-up, ‘Wonder Woman 1984,’ suffered from pandemic-related challenges, including a simultaneous release in theaters and on HBO Max. With many theaters closed, the sequel faltered, receiving negative reviews and grossing just $46.8 million domestically and approximately $170 million worldwide.

Meanwhile, DC Studios continues development on ‘Paradise Lost,’ an HBO series set in Themyscira, the mythical homeland of Wonder Woman.

Nogueira’s ‘Supergirl,’ directed by Craig Gillespie and starring ‘House of the Dragon’ actress Milly Alcock, marks her first produced screenplay. The film, based on Tom King’s graphic novel ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ is slated for release on June 26, 2026.
