Will Poulter, Kit Connor, and Manu Ríos are set to star in the upcoming horror film ‘Rapture,’ which will be introduced to buyers at the Cannes market by HanWay Films.

Set in the year 1348 during the Middle Ages, ‘Rapture’ unfolds within the isolated walls of Lansley Abbey, a stone monastery nestled in the Yorkshire countryside. The abbey is home to ten monks who lead lives of strict devotion and order — until their secluded existence is upended by the arrival of a mysterious messenger. This visitor brings disturbing news from the outside world and soon displays symptoms of a strange and deadly illness. A devastating plague is sweeping the land, beginning with hemorrhagic fever and transforming its victims into “revenants” — relentless, undead creatures.

As the disease draws nearer, Lansley Abbey becomes a tense refuge under siege. Desperate survivors seek shelter, while infected beings threaten to breach the sanctuary. The monks find themselves divided: some feel called to care for the suffering, while others aim to protect the abbey’s ancient knowledge at all costs. With death closing in, the brothers are pushed to both remarkable acts of compassion and chilling betrayal, ultimately grappling with the fundamental question: what defines humanity?

‘Rapture’ marks the feature directorial debut of playwright Jordan Tannahill. Production is scheduled to begin later this year in Hungary. The film is being produced by Elevation Pictures (‘Infinity Pool’), 2AM (‘Past Lives’), and Brookstreet Pictures (‘The Brutalist’). Eli Arenson (‘Lamb’) will serve as director of photography.

This project reunites Poulter and Connor following their recent appearance in Alex Garland’s ‘Warfare.’ Ríos, a Spanish actor and musician, was last seen in Pedro Almodóvar’s ‘Strange Way of Life.’

“We have all been blown away by the vision Jordan has for Rapture. It is rare to have such an atmospheric and terrifying zombie horror film that inhabits such an authentic historical world, with complex characters grappling with the biggest moral dilemmas. It is no wonder he has already attracted such great casting in Will, Kit and Manu with more to come, backed by top tier producers,” said Gabrielle Stewart, CEO HanWay Films.
