Denzel Washington, Robert Pattinson, and Daisy Edgar-Jones are set to headline ‘Here Comes the Flood,’ an upcoming crime thriller written by Simon Kinberg and directed by Fernando Meirelles for Netflix.

The film will be produced by Meirelles, alongside Oscar nominee Kinberg and Audrey Chon through their Genre Films banner.

Netflix originally acquired Kinberg’s screenplay back in 2020, securing the rights with a major seven-figure deal following a competitive bidding war. At the time, Netflix was deep in the streaming content race, with film chief Scott Stuber known for greenlighting high-profile projects. Though the film has seen changes in development — including a phase where Jason Bateman was in talks to direct — it has endured, now attracting a powerhouse cast five years later.

Plot details remain under wraps, but ‘Here Comes the Flood’ is described as an unconventional heist story involving a bank guard, a teller, and a master thief, all caught in a dangerous web of cons and betrayals. The narrative will unfold in a non-linear format.

Samson Mucke is attached as executive producer.

Meirelles, who earned an Oscar nomination for Best Director with his acclaimed 2002 film ‘City of God,’ brings notable experience in the crime genre. His credits also include ‘The Constant Gardener’ and ‘The Two Popes,’ the latter of which was a Netflix release and received three Academy Award nominations.

Edgar-Jones rose to fame with the romantic drama series ‘Normal People’ and later starred in ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ and ‘Fresh.’ She was most recently seen opposite Glen Powell in the disaster film ‘Twisters.’

Washington recently appeared in ‘Gladiator II’ and will next be seen in Spike Lee’s ‘Highest 2 Lowest,’ a remake of an Akira Kurosawa thriller. The Apple and A24-backed film will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival before its theatrical release on August 22.

Pattinson, meanwhile, stars opposite Jennifer Lawrence in ‘Die My Love,’ directed by Lynne Ramsay and premiering at Cannes. He also leads ‘The Drama’ alongside Zendaya, directed by Kristoffer Borgli, and earlier this year appeared in Bong Joon Ho’s ‘Mickey 17.’ He’s currently filming ‘The Odyssey’ with Christopher Nolan.
