Djimon Hounsou and Halle Berry have officially signed on to star in ‘Red Card,’ a new thriller set against the backdrop of Africa, tracing a high-stakes journey from Kenya’s Maasai Mara to the bustling Moroccan port of Casablanca.
Directed by Joel Souza, the film features a screenplay co-written by ‘Bad Boys’ creator George Gallo and Oscar-winning ‘Green Book’ screenwriter Nick Vallelonga. The story, inspired by real events in Africa, originates from Ava Roosevelt, Robert Menzies, and Michael J. Hershman.
Hounsou takes on the role of Max Elmi, a seasoned wildlife ranger in Kenya committed to fighting poachers. His world is turned upside down when his soccer-prodigy son is lured away by a corrupt sports agent and vanishes into North Africa’s trafficking networks. Determined to rescue him, Max joins forces with special agent Dane Harris, part of an international task force led by FBI supervisor Amanda Bruckner, portrayed by Berry.
Their mission spans from tranquil Maasai villages to the vibrant streets of Casablanca, unfolding a suspenseful narrative of courage, sacrifice, and global cooperation. The project has received support from the National Centre for Missing & Exploited Children and is backed by the Soloviev Foundation.
Hounsou, a two-time Academy Award nominee (‘Blood Diamond,’ ‘In America’) and Golden Globe nominee for ‘Amistad,’ is known for roles in ‘Gladiator,’ ‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ ‘Captain Marvel,’ and ‘A Quiet Place II’ and ‘A Quiet Place: Day One.’
Berry, the first African-American woman to win the Academy Award for Best Actress (‘Monster’s Ball’), also earned Emmy and Golden Globe wins for ‘Introducing Dorothy Dandridge.’ Her filmography includes ‘X-Men,’ ‘Die Another Day,’ ‘Gothika,’ and her directorial debut, ‘Bruised.’
‘Red Card’ is being produced by Anjul Nigam, Robert Menzies, and Ava Roosevelt. Executive producers include Ryan Winterstern, Brandon Burrows, Nat McCormick, and Danny Gusman.
Range Select and Stoic—the company led by McCormick and Gusman—will co-handle North American sales, with Stoic also managing international distribution.
