Steven Knight has officially joined the James Bond franchise as the screenwriter for the next installment, becoming the latest high-profile talent to take on the iconic spy series.

Knight will pen the script for director Denis Villeneuve, who is set to helm the upcoming 007 film for Amazon MGM Studios. The project is being produced by Amy Pascal and David Heyman.

His addition marks a significant shift for the franchise’s creative team. The previous era concluded with 2021’s ‘No Time To Die,’ which served as actor Daniel Craig’s final appearance as Bond and also marked the last script co-written by longtime Bond screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who had been with the series since 1999’s ‘The World Is Not Enough.’

Knight brings a wealth of experience to the table. He is currently working on a ‘Peaky Blinders’ movie and was nominated for an Academy Award for his original screenplay for the 2002 film ‘Dirty Pretty Things.’ His other notable credits include ‘Eastern Promises,’ ‘Spencer,’ and the Apple TV+ series ‘See.’

Knight was briefly involved in writing a new ‘Star Wars’ project featuring Daisy Ridley (returning as Rey) before departing the production.

This upcoming Bond film also represents another major change: it will be the first in the series produced without longtime overseers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. In February, the duo reached an agreement giving Amazon creative control over the franchise.
