Emmy Award winner Claire Foy will star alongside Jack O’Connell and Guy Pearce in ‘Ink,’ a new feature from ‘28 Years Later’ director; Danny Boyle. Studiocanal, Media Res, and House Productions will handle production.

The film will explore the rise of Rupert Murdoch’s media empire.

Based on the Tony-nominated play by multi–Olivier Award-winning playwright and screenwriter James Graham, ‘Ink’ has been adapted for the screen by Graham himself. Production is now underway. The film promises to be a dynamic, high-energy look at the mavericks who redefined modern journalism—visionaries who sought to create a new kind of news that delivered exactly what the public wanted and transformed global media in the process.

Guy Pearce will portray Rupert Murdoch, while Jack O’Connell takes on the role of Larry Lamb, the editor Murdoch hired to lead The Sun after buying the paper in 1969. Claire Foy joins as an ambitious editor who collaborates closely with Lamb during the paper’s early days.

Boyle produces alongside Tessa Ross and Michael Ellenberg, marking a reunion for Boyle and Ross after their Academy Award-winning work on Slumdog Millionaire. Tracey Seaward also produces, with Tonia Davis serving as executive producer.

The project originated from Media Res, which optioned Graham’s stage play originally directed by Rupert Goold. Studiocanal is fully financing the production, with Ron Halpern and Joe Naftalin overseeing on behalf of the company. Studiocanal will distribute the film theatrically in its key territories, including the UK, France, Germany, Poland, Benelux, Australia, and New Zealand.

The creative team includes Alwin H. Küchler as director of photography, Gareth Pugh and Carson McColl as production and costume designers, Finn Oates as editor, and casting directors Gail Stevens and Rebecca Farhall.

Foy recently earned critical acclaim for her performance in ‘H Is for Hawk,’ produced by Plan B and premiered at the Telluride Film Festival. The film was acquired by Roadside Attractions and has since screened at both the London Film Festival and AFI Fest.
