George Clooney has confirmed that production on the long-awaited ‘Ocean’s 14’ is likely to begin next year, with Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Don Cheadle all expected to reprise their roles in the blockbuster heist franchise.
Speaking to E! News, the Oscar-winning actor revealed that the project has received a green light from Warner Bros. “We just got the budget approved at Warner Bros. and we’re trying to set up. It’s just scheduling, so it’s just setting a start date for us. Probably start in about nine or 10 months, shooting.”
The film will be directed by David Leitch, known for The Fall Guy and Bullet Train, according to Variety. Clooney first teased the existence of a “great” script for the sequel in 2023, sparking speculation that the franchise would return to the big screen.
The original ‘Ocean’s’ trilogy, directed by Steven Soderbergh, began in 2001 with ‘Ocean’s Eleven,’ which grossed over $450 million worldwide and earned critical acclaim. The franchise continued with ‘Ocean’s Twelve’ (2004), which brought in $362 million globally, and ‘Ocean’s Thirteen’ (2007), which earned $311 million. A spinoff, ‘Ocean’s 8’ (2018), led by Sandra Bullock as the sister of Clooney’s character Danny Ocean, grossed $297 million worldwide.
The upcoming film is separate from the previously announced ‘Ocean’s’ prequel, which will star Barbie leads Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. Directed by Jay Roach and written by Carrie Solomon, the prequel is set in 1960s Europe and remains in active development.
