Jason Clarke is being considered for a role in Michael Mann’s ‘Heat 2’ at Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists. No cast deals are currently in place, though Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale have also been circling the film.
Mann is back to direct ‘Heat 2’ from his own script, adapted from the 2022 bestselling novel he co-wrote with Meg Gardiner. He will produce with Jerry Bruckheimer, United Artists’ Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt, while Eric Roth and Shane Salerno executive produce. Amazon MGM will release the film theatrically.
Mann’s 1995 classic ‘Heat’ starred Robert De Niro as master thief Neil McCauley and Al Pacino as LAPD detective Vincent Hanna, whose pursuit of McCauley consumes both men’s lives. The film grossed more than $187 million worldwide and became one of the most influential crime thrillers of its era.
‘The Heat 2’ novel serves as both prequel and sequel, exploring Hanna’s years in Chicago, McCauley’s earlier criminal life and Chris Shiherlis’ fate after the original film’s bank-robbery climax.
Clarke recently wrapped Amazon MGM’s Ally Clark opposite Viola Davis and Tom McCarthy’s ‘The Statement’ for Sony Pictures Classics and is currently filming ‘A Quiet Place 3’ for Paramount/Skydance and John Krasinski. His credits also include ‘Oppenheimer,’ ‘Zero Dark Thirty,’ ‘Mudbound,’ ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,’ ‘Chappaquiddick,’ ‘Everest,’ and ‘Winning Time.’
