‘Game of Thrones’ fans have embraced another journey to Westeros.
The prequel series ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ has proven to be a strong performer, with its Season 1 finale drawing a series-high 9.5 million viewers.
That figure reflects the episode’s first three days of availability and combines Nielsen’s measurement of viewers who watched the Sunday night broadcast on HBO’s cable channel with Warner Bros. Discovery’s internal streaming data from HBO Max. The finale, titled ‘The Morrow,’ marked a 2% increase over the previous high of 9.2 million viewers set by Episode 5, ‘In the Name of the Mother,’ which premiered Feb. 15.
The Feb. 22 finale delivered the show’s largest audience to date. HBO reports that 9.5 million people in the United States watched the episode within its first three days. Over the course of its six-episode season, the series saw audience growth nearly every week, with the only exception occurring when Episode 4 received an early release during Super Bowl weekend.
Since debuting on Jan. 18, ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ has averaged 14 million viewers in the U.S. across all platforms and 26 million globally, according to HBO. Those numbers are expected to rise further, as the network tracks viewership for 90 days following a show’s premiere.
The Westeros franchise remains a major asset for HBO. Season 2 of ‘House of the Dragon’ averaged more than 25 million viewers in the United States in 2024 — a slight decline from Season 1’s 29 million average. While ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ — based on George R.R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas — is more intimate in scope than either ‘House of the Dragon’ or the original ‘Game of Thrones,’ it has still delivered impressive results. In fact, it ranks as the third-largest debut season on HBO Max since the platform launched, trailing only House of the Dragon and The Last of Us.
HBO has already renewed ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ for a second season, which is currently slated to premiere in 2027.
