Mckenna Grace has secured the role of Daphne in Netflix and Berlanti Productions’ upcoming live-action ‘Scooby-Doo’ series.
The eight-episode show will feature Grace as the iconic orange-haired detective and will be written by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, who are widely known for their work on the anime series ‘Cowboy Bebop.’
Grace shared her excitement on social media following the announcement, posting a throwback image of herself dressed as Daphne as a child. Alongside the photo, she wrote, “Oh my jeepers, I can’t believe life is real I could cry all over again just looking at this announcement. So thankful, so excited.”
While the Netflix project does not yet have an official title, the series will explore the origins of Mystery Inc. It will focus on the group’s very first case: the mystery that brought them together and launched their crime-solving adventures.
The story is set at a summer camp, where longtime friends Shaggy and Daphne become entangled in a puzzling case involving a missing Great Dane puppy that may have witnessed a supernatural murder. They enlist the help of Velma, a scientifically minded local, and Freddy, a charming newcomer, as the group teams up to uncover the truth.
Grace is already familiar with the Scooby-Doo universe, having previously voiced Young Daphne in the animated film ‘Scoob!’
It has also recently been confirmed that Frank Welker will voice Scooby-Doo in the upcoming live-action series, which is currently preparing for production.
Beyond her involvement in the Scooby-Doo franchise, Grace has appeared in several major films, including ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife,’ ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,’ ‘Anniversary,’ and Paramount’s adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel ‘Regretting You.’
Recently, she has been cast as Maysilee Donner in the dystopian film The ‘Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.’
