Snoop Dogg is saddling up for the big screen again; this time in ‘God of the Rodeo,’ a gritty new drama from writer-director Rosalind Ross.
Snoop and Death Row Pictures partner Sara Ramaker are producing alongside heavyweights Ridley Scott and Giannina Scott.
“Linking up with Scott Free Productions and working with Ridley Scott and Giannina Scott on ‘God of the Rodeo’ is life changing and an honor,” Snoop said on social media. “Rosalind Ross brought a story with heart and grit, and that’s what I’m about. Me and the team at Death Row Pictures stepping in as producers, I’m acting in it, and Death Row Records is building the soundtrack—and this one got soul…”
The film dives into one of the darkest corners of American history, inspired by reporting from Daniel Bergner. Set in 1967 inside Louisiana State Penitentiary, the story follows Buckkey, a lifer who sees a shot at redemption in the prison’s first inmate rodeo.
But there’s a brutal twist: the rodeo isn’t about redemption — it’s a savage, gladiator-style spectacle built to entertain crowds and feed the warden’s ego. Survival, not glory, is the real prize.
Giannina Scott didn’t hold back on Snoop’s impact, calling him “one of the most influential artists alive” with reach far beyond music. Bringing him on as both star and producer, she said, elevates an already powerful project.
For Ramaker, this is exactly what Death Row Pictures is about: bold storytelling with real cultural weight. Teaming up with the Scotts and Ross, she said, sets the stage for something “powerful and authentic.”
Ross echoed that energy, calling Snoop’s role “completely transformative” and praising the shared creative vision behind the film.
Fresh off being named one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People of 2025, Snoop continues to expand his empire. From a partnership with NBCUniversal to appearances at the 2024 Paris Olympics—and even being tapped as Team USA’s Honorary Coach for the 2026 Winter Olympics—his cultural reach keeps growing.
And he’s not slowing down. Death Row Pictures is also developing a Snoop Dogg biopic at Universal Pictures, doubling down on real stories with global impact.
