Josh Duhamel (‘Transformers,’ ‘Shotgun Wedding’) and Sharlto Copley (‘District 9,’ ‘Monkey Man,’ ‘The Witcher’) are joining Daisy Ridley in ‘The Good Samaritan,’ a new action thriller from ‘Taken’ and ‘Peppermint’ director Pierre Morel.

Ridley leads the film as Dr. Rosalind Carver, a successful entrepreneur whose life takes a violent turn when she and her husband Matt rescue a wounded man adrift off the coast of Indonesia. Within hours, Matt is kidnapped by a ruthless pirate gang led by Langbore (Copley), thrusting Rosalind into a deadly conspiracy. To get him back, she teams up with a battle-scarred ex-mercenary (Duhamel) who has his own agenda for taking down the pirates — and the global trafficking empire behind them.

The film is based on an original screenplay by ‘Rambo: Last Blood’ writer Matthew Ian Cirulnick. Mark Canton (‘300,’ ‘Den of Thieves’) and Dorothy Canton are producing for Canton Entertainment alongside Oakhurst Pictures and Sentient Entertainment’s Renee Tab, with production set to begin in July.

Highland Film Group is handling international sales and introducing the project to buyers at Berlin’s European Film Market, while CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group are co-repping U.S. rights.

Highland CEO Arianne Fraser called the film a relentless, high-stakes thriller driven by a powerful female lead, while COO Delphine Perrier described it as “pure, heart-pounding entertainment” with emotional weight and breakout potential under Morel’s direction.
