Isabela Merced, recently seen in ‘The Last of Us,’ ‘Superman,’ and ‘Alien: Romulus’ is set to headline the feature film adaptation of ‘The House of the Dead,’ the classic horror shooter from Sega.

The project is in experienced hands with writer-director Paul W.S. Anderson, best known for bringing the ‘Resident Evil’ series to the big screen.

Originally released in 1997, ‘The House of the Dead’ was a high-octane arcade shooter that helped redefine zombie horror. One of its most influential innovations was depicting undead enemies that could sprint—an idea that later echoed through films like ‘Dawn of the Dead’ from Zack Snyder and ‘World War Z,’ directed by Marc Forster. The game marked a major shift away from the slow-moving zombies popularized by George Romero, helping modernize the genre.

International sales will be introduced by Rocket Science at next week’s European Film Market, where the project is expected to attract strong interest thanks to Merced’s rising profile and the built-in appeal of the genre. The team behind the film is positioning it as the potential launchpad for a new franchise.
