BOX OFFICE: ‘Wuthering Heights’ Heading Toward $80M Global Debut

Warner Bros’ ‘Wuthering Heights’ is tracking toward an $80M worldwide opening, with roughly $40M coming from 79 international markets — slightly ahead of the comparable overseas debut of ‘The Housemaid’ ($34.8M).

Domestic estimates range from the mid-$30M to $40M over four days. Friday brought in $11M, including $3M in previews. With 55% of tickets pre-sold, the key variable is walk-up business. Women are driving the turnout, giving the film a 54% “definite recommend” versus 39% from men.

The film also earned a B CinemaScore (solid for a romantic drama).

Valentine’s Day weekend historically boosts box office. The biggest was 2015’s Saturday holiday ($95.3M total), followed by 2016’s Sunday ($84.9M) and 2009’s Saturday ($83.7M). Last year’s Friday holiday generated $66.5M.

Meanwhile, Sony Pictures Animation’s ‘Goat’ is eyeing $25M over four days ($21M three-day) after $7.1M Friday including previews. It’s the weekend’s only new release with an A CinemaScore.

Audience response is strong: 76% definite recommend, 96% positive from kids under 12, and 59% saying “must see.” The film skews slightly female (51%), with teens 13–17 the largest demo (25%), followed by 18–24 and 25–34 (24% each).

Amazon MGM’s ‘Crime 101’ grossed $3.9M Friday (including $1M previews) from 3,161 theaters. It’s headed for $11.8M (3-day) and $13.8M (4-day).

The noir scored a B CinemaScore. IMAX/PLFs represent 25% of sales. The film skews male (59%) with a 59% definite recommend. Strongest enthusiasm comes from ages 45–54 (74%), 55+ (73%), and Latino/Hispanic audiences (75%). Under-25 viewers show the weakest response (33%). The 25–34 demo is largest at 27%, with 43% of the audience over 45. Couples account for 44% of attendees.

Gore Verbinski’s ‘Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die’ is on pace for a $4M four-day from 1,610 theaters after $1.4M Friday (including $450K previews). Briarcliff’s previous best four-day opening was Honest Thief ($4.3M in 2020).

The film earned a B CinemaScore and strong PostTrak scores (85% positive, 63% definite recommend). PLFs make up 15% of sales. The 18–34 demo accounts for 52% of the audience. Ethnic breakdown: 56% Caucasian, 19% Hispanic/Latino, 12% Black, 9% Asian, 4% Native American/other.
