Jason Momoa, Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, and Roman Reigns are in early discussions to join the cast of ‘Street Fighter,’ a new film adaptation from Legendary Entertainment.
The movie is based on Capcom’s iconic video game franchise, and while no official casting announcements have been made, sources say Momoa, Koji, Centineo, and Reigns are currently in preliminary negotiations.
Kitao Sakurai, recognized for his work as writer, director, and executive producer on ‘The Eric Andre Show,’ is attached to direct the project. Capcom is playing a significant role in the production, co-developing and co-producing the film with Legendary.
‘Street Fighter’ is one of the longest-running and most influential fighting game franchises. It debuted in arcades in 1987, but it was the 1991 release of ‘Street Fighter II’ that redefined the genre with its roster of selectable characters and diverse combat styles. The latest entry, ‘Street Fighter 6,’ launched in June 2023 and earned the title of Best Fighting Game at the 2023 Game Awards.
Previously, Danny and Michael Philippou — the Australian twin directors behind the horror hit ‘Talk to Me’ — were involved in a separate *Street Fighter* adaptation. The franchise has had other screen appearances, including the 1994 film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile, Raúl Juliá as M. Bison, and Ming-Na Wen as Chun-Li, as well as 2009's ‘Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li,’ released by 20th Century Fox.
