Rian Johnson’s ‘Wake Up Dead Man,’ the third installment in the ‘Knives Out’ Netflix franchise, will officially launch the 69th BFI London Film Festival.
The Netflix film will premiere on opening night, October 8, at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall, with the cast and crew in attendance. Daniel Craig returns as the beloved detective Benoit Blanc.
Festival director Kristy Matheson said: “At this 69th edition of the BFI London Film Festival we are inviting audiences to get their spyglass at the ready as we get back on the case with another deliciously fun mystery from director Rian Johnson and his all-star cast with Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.”
Joining Craig is a dynamic new ensemble that includes Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, and Thomas Haden Church. Together, they form a fresh lineup of suspects in what is being described as Blanc’s most perilous investigation yet.
With ‘Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery,’ Johnson builds on the storytelling framework he established with ‘Knives Out’ and ‘Glass Onion,’ pushing his signature style even further. The film is produced by Johnson and Ram Bergman under their T-Street banner.
This international premiere also marks a continuing relationship between Johnson and the BFI London Film Festival. ‘Glass Onion’ served as the closing film for the 66th edition in 2022, and the original ‘Knives Out’ was featured as the American Express Gala at the 63rd festival in 2019.
