Zack Snyder is moving forward with ‘The Last Photograph,’ a drama he has been developing since the mid-2000s. Production is set to begin later this month.

Stuart Martin and Fra Fee, both of whom appeared in Snyder’s ‘Rebel Moon’ films, will star in the indie feature, which will carry a significantly smaller budget than Snyder’s recent large-scale productions.

Snyder is producing alongside Deborah Snyder and Wesley Coller through their Stone Quarry banner, with Gianni Nunnari and Hollywood Gang Productions also on board. The war drama will film in Colombia, Iceland, and Los Angeles, with local production partners supporting in each location.

Executive producers include Mediaset España’s Telecinco Cinema, William Doyle, and Colombian company Jaguar Bite, run by Juan Pablo Solano and Simon Beltran. True North will provide production services in Iceland. The film will also qualify for Colombia’s CINA incentive, a 35% tax discount on local audiovisual expenditures.

Hans Zimmer, Steven Doar, and Omer Benyamin will compose the score. The script was written by Kurt Johnstad (‘300,’ ‘Rebel Moon’), based on a story by Snyder.

The plot follows an ex-DEA operative who travels to the mountains of South America to find his missing niece and nephew after their diplomat parents are murdered. Teaming up with a washed-up war photographer who witnessed the killers, he sets out in search of the children and the truth, confronting his own past along the way.

‘The Last Photograph’ has seen multiple iterations over nearly two decades. Earlier versions were set in Afghanistan, centered on a war correspondent, with Christian Bale and Sean Penn attached to star in the early 2010s before Snyder shifted to directing DC films.

In addition to ‘The Last Photograph,’ Snyder is developing several other projects, including MMA drama ‘Brawler’ and an LAPD-focused action thriller.
