Anya Taylor-Joy has joined the cast of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum,’ the upcoming New Line and Warner Bros. film directed by Andy Serkis.

Serkis will also reprise his role as Gollum, starring alongside returning franchise actors Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Elijah Wood as Frodo and Lee Pace as King Thranduil.

Taylor-Joy joins a high-profile group of new additions to the ensemble, including Kate Winslet as Marigol, Jamie Dornan as Strider and Leo Woodall as Halvard. The Golden Globe-winning and Emmy-nominated actor will play Seren, a Sindar Elf from the Woodland Realm. The character is described as “a trusted and lethal agent of King Thranduil.”

Across more than 20 years, the six theatrical films in ‘The Lord of the Rings’ and ‘The Hobbit’ series have generated nearly $6 billion at the global box office. ‘The Hunt for Gollum’ is intended to extend that cinematic legacy, following the search for the corrupted Hobbit in the years before ‘The Fellowship of the Ring.’

Warner Bros. is set to release “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum” worldwide on December 17, 2027.

The role marks Taylor-Joy’s third appearance in one of Warner Bros.’ major franchises, following ‘Furiosa,’ the prequel to ‘Mad Max: Fury Road,’ and the ‘Dune’ films.

Taylor-Joy will next appear in Apple TV+’s ‘Lucky,’ on which she also serves as an executive producer.
