Colin Jost is expanding into scripted television, teaming up with writer-producer Alex Barnow (‘The Goldbergs,’ ‘Power: Origins’) to develop a new drama series at Peacock about dentist and drug lord Larry Lavin.

Jost will executive produce and is set to star in the untitled project, which comes from Universal Television. The deal falls under his overall agreement with the studio through his banner, No Notes Productions.

The new series will not interfere with Jost’s long-running role on ‘Saturday Night Live,’ where he has spent over 20 years in various capacities, including co-head writer. He has also co-anchored Weekend Update alongside Michael Che since 2014 — they are now the longest running duo in the show’s history.

If the Peacock drama moves forward and Jost remains on SNL, he could balance both commitments — a path taken by other cast members such as Kenan Thompson (Kenan), Aidy Bryant (Shrill), and Cecily Strong (Schmigadoon!).

The project, centered on Larry Lavin, will be written by Barnow and inspired by the first season of the Wolves Among Us podcast. It tells the remarkable true story of Lavin, an Ivy League-trained dentist and suburban family man who secretly operated as a major cocaine kingpin on the East Coast—living a double life behind the illusion of the American dream.

Barnow will serve as showrunner and executive producer, alongside Jost and Jeff Grosvenor for No Notes Productions, and Rachel Kaplan (La Brea) for Absecon Entertainment. Lavin, Matt Davis, and Steve Seidel are attached as co-executive producers.

Although the series is being developed as a drama, it is expected to include comedic elements, reflecting the comedy backgrounds of both Jost and Barnow.

This project would mark Jost’s first leading role in a primetime TV drama. His previous acting work includes films such as ‘Staten Island Summer’ (which he also wrote), ‘How to Be Single,’ ‘Tom & Jerry,’ ‘Coming 2 America,’ and the upcoming ‘The Breadwinner,’ as well as the comedy-drama ‘Fly Me to the Moon,’ where he stars alongside his wife, Scarlett Johansson.

On SNL, Jost has appeared in sketches and currently portrays Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. He also hosts Pop Culture ‘Jeopardy!,’ which is set to transition from Prime Video to Netflix.
