Emerald Fennell’s ‘Wuthering Heights,’ featuring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, is sparking online discussion regarding the first trailer — with the project already facing some backlash over its casting choices and overall tone.

Scheduled for release on February 14, 2026, the film brings Emily Brontë’s 1847 classic to the screen under Fennell’s direction, with her also handling the script and production. Robbie takes on the role of Catherine Earnshaw and additionally serves as co-producer through LuckyChap Entertainment. Heathcliff will be portrayed by Jacob Elordi, who reportedly signed on after being personally approached by Fennell.

The first trailer, unveiled on September 3, pairs sweeping shots of the Yorkshire Dales with lavish period costumes, all set music by Charli XCX.

While some viewers are excited by the fresh approach, others argue that the casting deviates too much from Brontë’s novel. A number of fans have even suggested the project might have been more successful as an original story rather than a reimagining.
