Oscar and Palme d’Or winner Justine Triet (‘Anatomy of a Fall’) confirms her next set her next feature as ‘Fonda,’ which will mark her first fully English-language film.
The psychological thriller stars Mia Goth, Andrew Scott, Frank Dillane, and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, with Allison Janney in talks for a major role. The project reunites Triet with ‘Anatomy of a Fall’ producers Marie-Ange Luciani and David Thion, with mk2 Films handling sales. It is expected to be one of the top pre-sales titles at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin.
‘Fonda’ is an ensemble film led by Goth, who was initially cast in a supporting role before being promoted to lead after impressing Triet. Scott and Janney are also set for substantial parts. Additional casting is underway, with filming planned for spring 2026.
The film explores the fragile boundaries of sanity as grief and obsession take hold. The title refers not to the famous acting family but to an institution central to the story.
Triet also wrote the screenplay herself.
Studiocanal is co-financing and co-producing the film alongside mk2 and has acquired theatrical rights in several territories, including France, Germany, Italy, Benelux, Poland, Australia, and New Zealand.
The film follows Triet’s international breakthrough ‘Anatomy of a Fall,’ which won the Palme d’Or, earned Sandra Hüller an Oscar nomination, secured the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, and grossed $36 million worldwide.
