Paramount is officially heading back into the world of ‘Longlegs.’
The studio announced Monday that a new film connected to the horror hit will arrive in theaters on Jan. 14, 2028.
Osgood Perkins, who wrote and directed the original movie, is returning to write and direct the new project. Nicolas Cage is also set to come back. The film is not being billed as a direct sequel, but rather as another story set within the ‘Longlegs’ universe.
The first Longlegs, released in July 2024 by Neon, helped solidify Perkins as a major horror filmmaker. Made for under $10 million, the movie earned $128 million worldwide. Its marketing campaign was widely praised as a model for building buzz around a horror release. Maika Monroe starred as an FBI agent investigating a series of murder-suicides tied to a serial killer known as Longlegs, played by Cage.
Another unexpected development was the franchise’s move from Neon to Paramount. Sources says that Neon stepped aside because the new project’s budget was higher than the indie distributor’s usual range, while Paramount came aboard as part of its push to prioritize horror.
However, Perkins is still working with Neon on other projects. He has a first-look deal with the company and directed ‘The Monkey,’ ‘Keeper’ and the upcoming ‘The Young People,’ which is expected to hit theaters this year and stars Nicole Kidman, Lola Tung and Nico Parker.
