Nicolas Winding Refn’s next feature film is officially in the works.

Titled ‘Her Private Hell,’ the upcoming project was announced by indie distributor Neon and will feature a cast that includes Charles Melton, Sophie Thatcher, Kristine Froseth, and Havana Rose Liu.

Details remain tightly under wraps, with Neon sharing only a brief teaser on social media, describing the film as “something groovy” and listing its stars. The project marks Refn’s return to feature filmmaking following ‘The Neon Demon’ in 2016. Since then, the ‘Drive,’ ‘Only God Forgives,’ and ‘Bronson’ director has shifted focus to television with Amazon’s ‘Too Old to Die Young’ and Netflix’s ‘Copenhagen Cowboy.’

For Melton, ‘Her Private Hell’ continues a streak of high-profile collaborations following his acclaimed turn in Todd Haynes’ ‘May December’ (2023). He was also recently seen in ‘Warfare,’ directed by Alex Garland.

Thatcher, known for acclaimed roles in ‘The Boogeyman,’ ‘Heretic,’ and ‘Companion,’ as well as Showtime’s ‘Yellowjackets,’ continues her success streak, stepping further in the thriller/horror territory with this project — a perfect match for Refn’s hyper-stylized aesthetic.

Froseth, a Norwegian-American actress, portrayed a young Betty Ford in Showtime’s ‘The First Lady’ and also starred in ‘The Buccaneers’ on Apple TV+.

Havana Rose Liu, who broke out in the comedy ‘Bottoms,’ recently appeared in the Sundance feature ‘Lurker.’ She’s currently working on Jesse Eisenberg’s upcoming A24 musical comedy alongside Julianne Moore, Paul Giamatti, and Halle Bailey.
