Disney’s ‘Zootopia 2’ is headed for a global opening estimated above $525 million through Sunday, with $233 million earned by Friday. International markets account for $135.3 million of that total.

China is driving the surge. The film scored a massive $104 million (RMB 737M) on Saturday alone—not yet included in global totals—after delivering the biggest opening day ever for a U.S. animated film in the market. Its Saturday take was up 160% from Friday and surpassed ‘Avengers: Endgame’ for the highest single-day gross for a Hollywood title in China.

Despite China’s sluggish box office this year, the film’s performance marks a major bright spot. Still, analysts caution it doesn’t signal a full Hollywood rebound.

‘Zootopia 2’ opened Friday in six more markets, including Spain and the UK, and is now out in 51 territories (Japan opens in December). It ranked No. 1 across Europe except in the UK, where Wicked: For Good leads. The sequel delivered the third-highest opening day ever for WDAS in both the UK and Spain.

Top markets through Friday: China ($94.2M), Korea ($4.6M), France ($4.5M), Mexico ($3.7M), Germany ($2.8M).

Through Thursday, the global total stood at $133.2M, with $59.2M domestic and $74M international. China contributed $54.3M in its first two days, with Friday adding another $40M not included in that total.

The movie opened No. 1 in nearly all international markets, setting animation records in France, Germany, Italy, and across Latin America, where it captured an 82% market share. Mexico saw WDAS’s third-largest opening day ever at $1.6M.

Korea launched with $1.7M, the top animated Hollywood opening day of 2025 and the second-biggest WDAS debut ever, backed by strong audience scores.

‘Zootopia 2’ will finish rolling out across major markets this weekend, with early projections putting its international opening in the $135M–$145M range.

More updates are expected as weekend numbers finalize.
