Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Lily-Rose Depp are set to reunite with director Robert Eggers for his next project, ‘Werwulf,’ a new horror film centered on werewolves. The two actors were part of the ensemble cast of Eggers’ 2024 gothic hit ‘Nosferatu.’

Eggers will direct ‘Werwulf’ from a script he co-wrote with frequent collaborator Sjón — the pair also teamed up on the screenplay for ‘The Northman’ in 2022. ‘Werwulf’ is currently scheduled to hit theaters in North America on Christmas Day, 2026.

Producing the film are Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title, along with Eggers and Sjón. Chris and Eleanor Columbus of Maiden Voyage will serve as executive producers.

Focus Features, which most recently backed Eggers’ critically acclaimed ‘Nosferatu,’ will once again be involved. The studio has supported all of Eggers’ films so far, including ‘The Witch,’ ‘The Lighthouse’ (which Universal International distributed globally), and ‘The Northman.’

A modern reimagining of F.W. Murnau’s 1922 silent classic, ‘Nosferatu’ starred Depp as a young woman ensnared by the chilling Count Orlok, played by Bill Skarsgård. Taylor-Johnson portrayed Friedrich Harding, a skeptic of the supernatural. The ensemble also featured Nicholas Hoult, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson, Simon McBurney, and Willem Dafoe.

‘Nosferatu’ surpassed expectations during its Christmas release, debuting with an impressive $40 million — nearly double its forecast — and eventually grossing over $181 million worldwide.
