Ana de Armas has signed on to headline ‘Sweat,’ a psychological thriller from British filmmaker J Blakeson (‘I Care a Lot’). The film is an English-language remake of Magnus von Horn’s 2020 Polish feature, which premiered at Cannes.
De Armas will play Emma Kent, an ambitious fitness influencer obsessed with online fame. When a meeting with her idol, Kat Highbrook, goes disastrously wrong, Emma becomes entangled with Trent, an obsessive fan whose dangerous devotion forces her to confront how much she’s willing to sacrifice for success.
Production is set to begin March 30 in Los Angeles and the U.K., with additional casting currently underway.
AGC Studios will finance and co-produce the film, handling international sales through AGC International. U.S. rights will be jointly represented by AGC, WME Independent, and CAA Media Finance, with sales launching at the European Film Market in Berlin this month.
De Armas broke out in ‘Knives Out’ and went on to appear in ‘No Time to Die’ and ‘The Gray Man.’ She earned an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in ‘Blonde’ and recently starred in the John Wick spinoff ‘Ballerina.’
