Good news, Spider-Verse fans — the wait for ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’ just got a little shorter.
Sony has officially moved the release date up by a week. Instead of June 25, 2027, the movie will now swing into theaters on June 18, 2027. Even better, that lands right on Juneteenth weekend and Father’s Day, and it’ll hit IMAX and premium formats right from the start.
This isn’t just any animated film — ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’ is hands down one of the most anticipated movies on the horizon. It’s the third chapter in the groundbreaking trilogy that started with the Oscar-winning ‘Into the Spider-Verse’ (2018) and continued with ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ (2023). The first film made $393.6 million worldwide and completely changed the game for animation, while the sequel skyrocketed to $690.6 million globally, showing just how much love the franchise has gained over the years.
Of course, fans are still buzzing about that massive cliffhanger at the end of ‘Across the Spider-Verse,’ where Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore) wound up stuck in a different reality, face-to-face with an evil version of himself. ‘Beyond’ will finally deliver the payoff we’ve all been waiting for.
The movie is being directed by Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson, with the script coming from Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and David Callaham. Believe it or not, there was a time when Sony thought this film could be ready by March 29, 2024 — just nine months after ‘Across.’ But given how complex and meticulously crafted these movies are (and knowing Lord and Miller’s perfectionist streak), fans weren’t exactly surprised when it shifted.
The voice cast includes returning stars like Hailee Steinfeld and Daniel Kaluuya, alongside Shameik Moore. And yep — this isn’t the first date shuffle for the project, which at one point was also set for June 4, 2027.
Bottom line? We’ve still got a wait ahead of us, but at least the countdown just got a little shorter.
