Unofficial News: Mad Max May Be Revving Up for Another Ride
The wasteland may not be finished with George Miller just yet.
After more than four decades of dust, chaos, and high-speed carnage, the Mad Max franchise could be preparing for a new chapter. The series began in 1979 with Mel Gibson as Max Rockatansky and later roared back to life in 2015 with ‘Mad Max: Fury Road,’ where Tom Hardy took over the role.
Now, according to a new report from Puck News’ Matthew Belloni, Miller is reportedly exploring plans for another ‘Mad Max’ movie following ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,’ with a TV series also on the cards. ‘Furiosa’ earned strong reviews but struggled at the box office, bringing in around $175 million worldwide against a reported $168 million budget.
That performance may have cooled Warner Bros.’ interest, but it has not killed the engine entirely. The report claims Amazon, Universal, and Sony Pictures have shown interest in the franchise.
Warner Bros., which distributed all five previous ‘Mad Max’ films, has reportedly passed on Miller’s latest plans for both a new movie and a television project. Across the franchise, the films have earned more than $540 million worldwide, with ‘Fury Road’ still standing as the biggest success.
For now, nothing is official. But if Miller has his way, the wasteland might still have a few more explosions left in the tank.
