‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is assembling a strong supporting cast around Tom Holland, with several major names returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for this anticipated sequel.
Mark Ruffalo is officially set to reprise his role as Bruce Banner, also known as the Hulk, marking the character’s return to the big screen for the first time since ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021).’ While his involvement had been speculated for some time, his casting only became certain as the script was finalized and production began ramping up for a start later this month in England.
Joining him is ‘Better Call Saul’ alum Michael Mando, who is confirmed to return as Mac Gargan, a.k.a. the Scorpion. Mando first appeared in the role in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ (2017), the film that launched the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man trilogy within the MCU.
Jon Bernthal is also on board to reprise his fan-favorite role as Frank Castle, aka the Punisher. This marks the character’s first appearance in an MCU film and his first cinematic portrayal since 2008’s ‘Punisher: War Zone,’ where the role was played by the late Ray Stevenson.
The film will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, with longtime Spider-Man writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers returning to handle the screenplay. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is currently scheduled for release on July 31, 2026.
