Rebecca Romijn recently provided an update on her return as Mystique in the highly-anticipated ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’
During an interview at The Hollywood Reporter’s San Diego Comic-Con suite, the ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ actress revealed that she isn’t entirely sure if her work on the upcoming Marvel movie is complete, noting that the script is still being finalized.
“[I’m] not quite sure,” Romijn said. “The script hasn’t — they haven’t finished writing it. It’s been very, very fun, and we don’t know yet. They keep everything very close to the vest themselves in an effort to keep everything under wraps.”
Romijn also reflected on what it felt like to reprise the role of Mystique nearly two decades after she last played the iconic mutant in 2006’s ‘X-Men: The Last Stand.’
Romijn: “It was very surreal to be with my old cast as well as a new cast. I had crazy dreams while I was there for a large chunk of shooting. Like, really kind of regressive dreams. It was very strange, my brain was really trying to organize. Like, wow, this is a character I played 25 years ago, 20 years ago. Yeah, [it was] very surreal.”
In late March, Marvel confirmed the cast of ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ which prominently features several stars from 20th Century Fox’s original ‘X-Men’ films. Alongside Romijn, returning cast members from the 2000 debut movie include Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, and James Marsden as Cyclops. Alan Cumming will also reprise his role as Nightcrawler from ‘X2: X-Men United,’ while Kelsey Grammer is back as Beast, a character he last portrayed in ‘X-Men: The Last Stand.’
