Warner Bros. has reason to celebrate. As Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘One Battle After Another’ rolls out as the studio’s seventh original film of the year, Warner Bros. has become the first studio in 2025 to surpass $4 billion at the worldwide box office.
This marks the studio’s first time hitting that milestone since 2019. Back then it took 20 releases to reach the figure—this year Warner Bros. managed it with just 11. To date, the studio has generated $1.795 billion domestically and $2.2 billion overseas. Anderson’s latest, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, is projected to open with a $45 million global debut this weekend.
Several factors fueled Warner Bros.’ success…
‘Superman’ successfully launched the revamped DC slate under James Gunn and Peter Safran. Meanwhile, Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy steered bold bets at Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, backing original plays like ‘Sinners’ and ‘F1,’ along with new IP such as ‘A Minecraft Movie’—all of which paid off handsomely.
The studio’s dominance at the box office has been unmatched this year. Nine of its releases opened at No. 1, delivering 15 weekends on top both domestically and globally—more than any other distributor in 2025. Seven consecutive titles debuted north of $40 million, a feat no studio has achieved before. (By comparison, Disney managed five such openings in 2024.)
Warner Bros.’ genre arm, New Line, also had a record-breaking run, topping the charts for five straight weekends. Horror proved a winning formula, with the Richard Brener-led label crossing $1 billion in grosses from the genre alone, including franchise-best results for new installments of ‘Final Destination’ and ‘The Conjuring.’
Additional records included becoming the first studio since 2009 to have two films—‘Sinners’ and ‘Minecraft’—each open above $40 million during the same weekend.
Month by month, Warner Bros. also dominated distribution. It was the leading studio worldwide in April ($1 billion), July ($898 million), and August ($438 million). For September so far, it controls 36% of the domestic market share.
Disney is also on track to cross $4 billion globally by year’s end, with ‘Tron: Ares,’ ‘Zootopia 2,’ and ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ still to come.
Here are Warner Bros.’ top-grossing titles of 2025 to date, each clearing $100 million worldwide:
‘A Minecraft Movie’ — $957.8M
‘F1: The Movie’ (Apple Original Films) — $624.3M
‘Superman’ — $615.3M
‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ — $403.2M
‘Sinners’ — $366.6M
‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’ — $313M
