Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, known for revitalizing franchises including ‘Spider-Man’ and ‘Dungeons & Dragons,’ are set to take on ‘Star Trek.’ The duo will write, produce and are attached to direct a new original film for Paramount through their GoldDay banner.
Details remain under tight wraps, but insiders say the project is a completely new entry in the ‘Star Trek’ universe, with no ties to existing series, films or prior development efforts.
The move aligns with recent remarks from Skydance founder David Ellison, who indicated the next ‘Star Trek’ film would depart from the Chris Pine–led series and introduce new actors. Sources also suggest the film will likely feature an entirely new set of characters.
Goldstein and Daley have built a reputation for fresh, audience-friendly takes on major IP. Their work includes ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ and ‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,’ the latter becoming one of Paramount’s best-reviewed releases of 2023 with strong critic and audience scores.
The duo also recently collaborated with Skydance on ‘Mayday,’ a Cold War action comedy starring Ryan Reynolds. Early test screenings for Skydance and Apple reportedly scored extremely high, with a release planned for next year.
