Dan Trachtenberg’s ‘Predator: Badlands’ has revived the sluggish November box office, debuting at $40 million domestically and $80 million worldwide — the best opening in the franchise’s history. Powered by glowing reviews, an A- CinemaScore, and a 95% Rotten Tomatoes audience rating, the film marks a major win for Disney and 20th Century.
Other titles boosted the weekend: Paramount’s ‘Regretting You’ held strong at No. 2 with $7.1 million, pushing its global total to $70.9 million. ‘Black Phone 2’ placed third with $5.2 million, crossing $120 million worldwide on a modest budget. ‘Sarah’s Oil’ impressed audiences with an A+ CinemaScore, opening to $4.5 million, while awards contender ‘Nuremberg’ rounded out the top five with $4.1 million.
Not all Oscar hopefuls landed: ‘Die My Love’ struggled with audiences despite critical praise, and ‘Christy’ failed to crack the top 10. Meanwhile, Neon’s ‘Sentimental Value’ posted an exceptional $50,000 per-theater average in limited release.
