Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez are set to lead ‘Not Alone,’ a new alien-themed animated film from Illumination, the studio behind ‘Despicable Me’ and ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie.’
Announced at the Annecy Animation Festival, the film marks Chalamet’s animation debut. He voices Joe, an introverted rocket mechanic who lives a quiet life alone, while Gomez plays Fran, a brilliant astro-botanist developing the world’s first plant-fueled rocket.
The story follows Joe and Fran as they prepare the rocket for its first launch and unexpectedly find themselves drawn to each other. Their budding romance is complicated when three tiny, unruly aliens (Dunk, Welly and Shirm) take refuge in Joe’s home while fleeing Zandro, a zealous but inept law officer. The aliens soon realize Fran’s rocket could be their ticket home.
Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan and Jamie Demetriou will voice Dunk, Welly and Shirm, while Brett Goldstein plays Zandro. The supporting cast includes Allison Janney and Lamorne Morris.
‘Not Alone’ will be co-directed by Illumination veterans Eric Guillon, Claire Dodgson and Jonathan Del Val. Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri is producing, with Joy Poirel, Richard Curtis and David Distenfeld executive producing.
The film is set to be released on April 16, 2027. It follows Illumination’s Annecy premiere of ‘Minions & Monsters,’ which has received positive early reviews.
