Jake Schreier is working on the ‘X-Men’ reboot and recently shared that ‘Beef’ creator Lee Sung Jin and ‘The Bear’ showrunner Joanna Calo are writing the script for the new Marvel movie.
In a new interview, the ‘Thunderbolts*’ director said the project is still in development, but things are moving forward. He explained that Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo are currently working on a draft, and he’s really excited to be teaming up with them again.
Schreier has collaborated with both writers before on ‘Beef,’ and they also worked together on ‘Thunderbolts*.’ This X-Men reboot would bring the trio back together for another Marvel project, which is expected to come out sometime after ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’
He also had a lot of praise for them, saying they’re behind two of the most interesting shows on TV right now. Talking about ‘X-Men,’ Schreier pointed out that the comics aren’t just about big ideas—they’re also very character-driven, with a kind of soap opera-style drama. He thinks having writers who can blend those personal stakes with bigger themes is key to making the movie feel true to ‘X-Men.’
Meanwhile, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is set to bring X-Men characters into the MCU for the first time. That’s possible because Disney acquired 21st Century Fox back in 2019, bringing those characters under the same umbrella. Some familiar faces are returning too, including Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, and James Marsden as Cyclops.
